When I coach my clients it is not only about the nutrition and fitness, it is much more than that. It is about educating,supporting and coaching my clients on achieving the optimum wellness for themselves.
What is wellness to you? Wellness has multiple facets and it is much more than nutrition and exercise. No doubt having optimised nutrition and a physically active life is amonst the pillars of wellness. There seems to be great confusion and disparity on the meaning and definition of wellness.
In 2004, Psychologist Dr.Judd Allen, from the National Wellness Institute, conducted a survey amongst number of the experts in the field to establish an industry approved definition of wellness.. The survey responses revealed the following aspects and definition of wellness from a number of experts:
- Wellness is a choice. It is a conscious, self-directed process in order to achieve full potential.
- Wellness is positive and affirming
- Wellness is a multi-faceted and a holistic concept that includes factors such as lifestyle, nutrition, menatl and spiritual well-being, and the environment we live in.
As a result of the survey study, the National Wellness institute have adopted the following definition for wellness.
Wellness is a process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a more successful existence.
